Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is the help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is obtained.

The aims of MHFA are:

to preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others

to provide help to prevent the mental health problems developing into a more serious state

to promote the recovery of good mental health

to provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem

Who should do MHFA

MHFA does not teach people to be therapists. However, it does teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.

If you are responsible for staff, interact with the public, or just want to improve your knowledge MHFA is for you.

Open Access Courses

Each MHFA course lasts two days and is delivered by nationally accredited trainers. All participants who complete the course will receive a MHFA certificate. There is a 10% discount available for block bookings (more than three places). Please enquire for details.

In House Courses

We can provide courses for you in your organisation or workplace. All courses are delivered by nationally accredited trainers and provide valuable skills for staff with line management responsibilities, or in contract with the public. MHFA is a twelve hour course and can be delivered as two days, or as four three hour modules.

We also offer a range of other training courses including mental health awareness courses and bespoke training for managers. Please contact mhfa.trainers@restore.org.uk for further information.
